about

In July of 2016 we set out to record our second album at a music store in Sanger. I wanted to try to get how we sounded playing together live instead of single tracking. We thought we would have two days to record, but as it turned out, the back room we were recording in was completely full of equipment. So the first day was spent moving out gear and moving ours in.

The second day, we realized that although the back room had a/c, it was too loud to have on during recording. This was during the middle of a heatwave and it was over 100 degrees outside. So we all played together in this room, baking for 15-20 minutes at a time until we were sweating too much to play the guitars. And that was how we recorded for the whole day. We ended up using two computers so we could get enough microphones (12) recorded at the same time to get us all playing together. We ended up finishing up the day and when I got home, I lined the guitar and bass tracks up with the drums on the first song, pressed play and heard it for 10 seconds before my computer finally bit the dust.

I had no way to finish the record for about four months until I got a new interface. I couldn't figure out how to get the tracks lined up the right way so we had to re-record all the guitar and bass and released it in February 2017.

After a bunch of time had passed, I figured out how to finally line up the original live guitar and bass with the drums and re-recorded the vocals more similar to how I would have sang them live. I figured this would give a more accurate representation of what we sounded like as a three-piece in 2016, if you saw us at a show that had a decent pa system. Its more rough around the edges, but roses are meant to have thorns. And every cowboy sings a sad sad song. This is in the order we recorded them and I went with the overall best take of each song even if there were some flubs. I hope you enjoy this version that I personally like better.
